Mexican president congratulates new ruling party leader

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Monday congratulated the ruling party’s newly elected leader.
At a daily press conference, the Mexican president applauded the election of Luisa Maria Alcalde, the current interior minister, as the leader of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
Alcalde, a 37-year-old lawyer, was unanimously elected party leader during Morena’s 7th Extraordinary National Congress on Sunday.
She will replace Mario Delgado as party leader, who will go on to head the education ministry. ■
